Who organizes the WREN conference?

The WREN conference is organized by a small group of state or local public health colleagues. If you would like to join the WREN mailing list, please contact us.

What is the WREN conference?

The WREN conference has a 33 year history of sharing information on exposures to environmental contaminants; improving our understanding of the role of environment in disease and injury; expanding the links between applied epidemiology and response to environmental emergencies; and helping public health professionals build a skill set for translating research to benefit the community and vulnerable populations.

WREN’s longevity is largely due to its benefit to Western state and local environmental and public health staff. The program and purpose of WREN has always been attendee-driven; the focus of the presentations has been on sharing of experiences to improve public health practice across the Western states.

How was the location of the conference chosen?

Ashland, Oregon is located equidistant between the Washington and California state health departments and was the location of prior WREN conferences. The city is known for its scenery (e.g., Ashland Creek, Lithia Park, etc.) and scene (e.g., Oregon Shakespeare Festival from March to October).
